Gold Laced and Blue Laced Gold Wyandotte Hens with their Gold Laced Cockerel. 'Wayne' the Gold Laced Wyandotte Cockerel This deep chested American breed is new for us at Haytor Reach. As its bantam counterparts gained popularity in recent years there has been a decline in interest in these large fowl beauties.

Tempted by the chance to hatch some fertilised eggs we were lucky to raise Gold Laced Wyandottes and some superb Blue Laced Gold Wyandottes rarely seen in the South West. With our new stunning cockerel we are excited to see what 2010 brings.

Wyandottes are gentle and calm birds with a trusting nature. They are so friendly that for many months we had a nightly ritual of posting two hens through their pophole to bed because they didn't want to leave our side.

These placid birds will live happily in a poultry ark but to keep them trim, some degree of freedom is best. Because of their curvaceous body they very rarely fly so are easily contained by low fencing.

Though known more as an egg layer they have been used as a table bird in the past. At Haytor Reach we hope to be able to offer some splendid birds for sale later in the 2011.
