This French breed famed for it's dark almost chocolate brown eggs is found in a variety of different colours. It was developed in the 1920's in the French town of the same name.

Hens are straightforward and easy to look after having a relatively tame nature, suitable for beginners and families. They are busy little birds and will enjoy free ranging around your garden eating all the unwanted slugs and snails.

The Marans is an ideal smallholders bird for they are hardy and fast maturing, cocks birds carry meat well on their breast and legs and the hens supply a good amount of eggs for the kitchen.

Our mixed group of Marans has a superb Splash Marans Cockerel running with his hens so chicks hatched will be either Splash or Copper Blue.
