Bantam Salmon Faverolle Hens Salmon faverolle Cockerel - Bantam Faverolles are a French breed originating and named after a village in Northern France. The first recording of the Salmon variety we keep at Haytor Reach was in 1895.

They were specifically bred for meat production but also produce a good amount of tinted eggs and are known to continue laying throughout the winter months.

Faverolles are distinctive in that they wear a striking beard and whiskers and are often likened to owls by children that visit the farm. They are a large bird, in the large fowl version a male reaching up to 11lb's, so we only keep the bantam variety which is a much more suitable size for families.

This quiet, friendly and gentle breed is an excellent choice for families with children. They can become quite tame and are easy to handle. They have great personalities and will follow you around. Because of their feathery legs a little extra care needs to be taken to prevent them from getting muddy during the winter months. As with most of the docile breeds Faverolles can be bullied, so are best kept with their own kind or chickens of a similar nature. This endearing breed is fast becoming one of our favourites.
