Barnevelder Hens 'Bertie' the Double-laced Blue Barnevelder Cockerel and his girls. If you are looking for an easy to care for, friendly, attractive bird that lays a good amount of large brown eggs then the Barnevelder is an excellent choice.

Named after the Dutch town of Barneveld this good natured bird is perfect for the family and will cope with any situation, though their beauty is much appreciated when running free on grass.

We have an attractive group of Double Laced and Double Laced Blue hens, Bertie has now retired so we have Boris our new 2012 Double Laced Cockerel running in with the girls. Offspring will be all Double Laced.

The Barnevelder is a calm and docile breed ideal for families and beginners.

They are not great fliers so a medium high fence or electric poultry net will usually suffice in containing them. A good amount of eggs are laid in different shades of brown and sometimes with speckling. As this breed is susceptible to Marek's disease we have sourced a strain with little to no history of the disease and vaccinate all birds at a day old so you won't be disappointed.
